Gu-shaped vase in blue and white porcelain, decorated with f - Lot 46
Gu-shaped vase in blue and white porcelain, decorated with figures in a mountain landscape. China, Transition period (late Ming / early Qing), 17th century.
China, late Ming / early Qing dynasty, Transition period, 17th century
This rare gu-shaped vase with flared body and double bulge is decorated in underglaze blue with a lively scene of characters moving through a stylized mountain landscape, punctuated by rock formations and vegetation, in the tradition of Transition period porcelain. The middle section is enhanced by sober geometric motifs.
The decoration, typical of the transition period between the Ming and early Qing dynasties, is distinguished by its freedom of composition and lively lines, typical of the workshops active in Jingdezhen in the first half of the 17th century.
The unglazed base bears witness to an earlier firing.
