Léon Herlant (1873-1968) - 1 autochrome on Lumière plate, 12 x 9 cm. Autochrome Vergé Fleuri au Printemps - A Scene of Serenity and Natural Harmony This spring scene is set in a vergé in bloom, where nature, in all its splendor, is revealed under a clear sky. The central tree, sturdy and majestic, stands out among the other trees that surround it, forming a harmonious group in the landscape. Spring flowers hang from the branches of the trees, like small splashes of color that capture all the sweetness of the season. White, pink and yellow flowers bloom here and there, adding lightness and freshness to the overall scene. At the foot of the central tree, two children play, quietly absorbed in their own world. A little girl dressed in red adds a dynamic touch to the composition. Her bright clothing contrasts elegantly with the surrounding natural colors. She stands close to the tree, observing or interacting with her surroundings, while the other, more discreet child is exploring or enjoying the tranquility of this spring landscape. The trees in the background, all in full bloom, are outlined in a subtle interplay of light and shadow. The sun's rays filter through the branches, creating a soft, natural light that magnifies the colors of the flowers and the shadows cast on the ground. This play of light accentuates the tranquility of the scene, giving the whole a feeling of calm and serenity. The eye is drawn to the many shades of green in the foliage and the soft tones of the spring flowers hanging in the trees. The entire scene, with its balanced composition, evokes the purity and peace of a still spring, while highlighting the simplicity and harmony between childhood and nature. Léon Herlant (1873-1968), a man who was both a scientist and an artist. A doctor of medicine and pharmacology, professor and chairman of the Faculty of Medicine at the Université Libre de Bruxelles from 1930 onwards, Herlant was the perfect example of the spirit of his time: curious, methodical and sensitive to the beauty of the world. In addition to his scientific work - including a book co-written with G. Billen in 1896, Micrographie des poudres officinales - Léon Herlant was a passionate Autochrome photographer. His photographs reveal an intimate view of nature and everyday objects. His works include superb snow-covered landscapes, tormented studies of trees, and still lifes of great finesse, where colors burst forth in delicate light. Weight: 0 g
