Léon Herlant (1873-1968) - 1 autochrome on Lumière plate, 12 - Lot 82
Léon Herlant (1873-1968) - 1 autochrome on Lumière plate, 12 x 9 cm. This autochrome transports us into an intimate, mysterious world, where light and shadow intertwine to create an atmosphere that is both dramatic and refined. The space is dominated by neo-Gothic furniture, whose elegant, sculpted lines seem to lend a note of serious nobility to the whole. The imposing furniture, with its complex, ornate forms, is bathed in subdued light, reinforcing its monumental presence and mystery.
On the right-hand wall, an enormous silk tapestry depicting an imperial Chinese dragon takes up all the space and dominates the room. The beautifully woven dragon almost seems to live in the soft light, with its vibrant colors and intricate interweaving of gold and silk threads. The image of the dragon stands as a symbol of power and wisdom, adding a touch of exoticism and grandeur to this already majestic interior.
Shadows, created by low lighting, are projected onto the walls, accentuating the sense of depth and mystery that hangs over the space. Every detail, from the neo-Gothic furniture to the rich tapestry patterns, seems to float in a suspended, almost unreal atmosphere. The soft light filtering through the windows or curtains creates striking contrasts, reinforcing the impression of a room in perpetual transition, ready to reveal a secret or unveil a new story.
This interior, despite its imposing furniture and grandiose decorative elements, remains an intimate place, where the viewer is invited to observe every nook and cranny, every texture, every detail. The autochrome captures the essence of intimate pictorialism, where light and shadow battle to offer a poetic vision of space, echoing the imagination and history behind every object and fabric.
