Léon Herlant (1873-1968) - 5 autochromes on Lumière plate, 8 - Lot 93
Léon Herlant (1873-1968) - 5 autochromes on Lumière plate, 8.5 x 10 cm. Group of 5 outdoor autochromes, the first dated February 21, 1909 and signed. These autochromes offer a panoply of landscapes captured in a variety of locations, including forest views, majestic mountains, and picturesque homes. Each image features natural and architectural scenes, highlighting the timeless beauty of nature and urbanism of the period. The luminous details and rich colors testify to the artist's talent and the precision of the autochrome technique, which makes these landscapes vivid and striking. The first shot, taken in February 1909, reveals a winter landscape with bare trees and clear skies, while other autochromes reveal mountain views and charming villages, offering a contrast between the tranquility of nature and traditional architecture. Léon Herlant (1873-1968), a man who was both a scientist and an artist. A doctor of medicine and pharmacology, professor and chairman of the Faculty of Medicine at the Université Libre de Bruxelles from 1930 onwards, Herlant was a perfect example of the spirit of his time: curious, methodical and sensitive to the beauty of the world. In addition to his scientific work - including a book co-written with G. Billen in 1896, Micrographie des poudres officinales - Léon Herlant was a passionate Autochrome photographer. His photographs reveal an intimate view of nature and everyday objects. His works include superb snow-covered landscapes, tormented studies of trees, and still lifes of great finesse, where colors burst forth in delicate light. Weight: 0 g
