LOUIS VUITTON - Lot 187
LOUIS VUITTON Mail trunk in monogrammed jacquard woven canvas Paris & London, circa 1899-1904 Important mail trunk covered with the very rare brown and beige monogrammed jacquard woven canvas, decorated with the emblematic LV motif and stylized flowers. Introduced in 1896 by Georges Vuitton, this canvas was the first support for the famous Monogram and marked a decisive step in the history of the House. Woven on a loom from linen and cotton threads, it reflected the desire for innovative, durable luxury, while offering a refined textile finish. Its production, discontinued in 1904 in favor of a more resistant coated canvas, makes it today one of Louis Vuitton's rarest and most sought-after coverings. The trunk features natural wood slats, riveted blackened iron corners and edges, and brass lock and clasps. The sides are decorated with green and yellow painted stripes and bear the antique initials "B". The interior, upholstered in ivory satin with black buttons, contains two original removable trays. A printed label reads: "1, rue Scribe, Paris / 149, New Bond Street, London", and the serial number 145078 dates production from 1899 to 1904. Condition: Normal wear Height: 48 cm Length: 100 cm Depth : 50 cm Weight : +/- 30 kilos
