Chest of drawers in precious wood and gilded bronzes - Louis - Lot 293
Chest of drawers in precious wood and gilded bronzes - Louis XIV, early Louis XV period, France, first half of the 18th century. A curved chest of drawers opening to four drawers without a crossbar, richly decorated with chased and gilded bronzes: handles, key escutcheons, falls and sabots decorated with mascarons, scrolls, palmettes and foliage, typical of the great French decor of the end of the reign of Louis XIV and the Regency style. The top features a central cartouche in brass marquetry with symmetrical scrolls, flowers and volutes, framed by a double brass fillet. The uprights are embellished with carved falls and the legs with acanthus-motif sabots. Very fine workmanship, representative of Parisian luxury from 1710 - 1730, combining the rigor of the Louis XIV style with the elegance heralding the Louis XV style.
