Elongated, oval-shaped shield, woven from finely-packed plant fibers, featuring a geometric pattern of longitudinal and transverse stripes. The reverse side retains a wood and leather gripping system, secured with ligatures, attesting to its actual use. Beautiful homogeneous honey-brown patina, the result of long handling and use. An object with both defensive and statutory functions, typical of Azande production in northeastern DR Congo (first half of the 20th century).
