Oromo / Sidamo warrior shield. Ethiopia. Leather (thick stretched hide), sewn leather handle. A traditional circular shield from southern Ethiopia, made from a single, carefully shaped thick hide with a strong central bulge designed to deflect blows. The surface retains an even, dark-brown patina marked by use and natural aging. The reverse side features a large, firmly attached sewn leather handle, attesting to effective martial use. An authentic ethnographic object, representative of the defensive weaponry of the Oromo and Sidamo populations, sought after for its formal power, functional sobriety and historical value.
