Two Ewe fertility dolls. Togo / Ghana. Wood, pigments. - Lot 45
Two Ewe fertility dolls. Togo / Ghana. Wood, pigments. A set of two female figures of different sizes, sculpted according to the Ewe canons: frontal bodies with full volumes, ringed necks, short arms along the bust and expressive faces with wide-open eyes. Differentiated hairstyles, one smooth, the other crested, individualize the figures. Contrasting patinas, from satiny light brown to darker brown, reveal repeated handling in a ritual and domestic context linked to fertility and maternity. Condition: Good Height: 30 cm and 22 cm Width : 12 cm and 7 cm Weight : 1 kilo 130 grs
