Seated Sénoufo female statue. Ivory Coast. Carved wood repre - Lot 203

Seated Sénoufo female statue. Ivory Coast. Carved wood representing a female figure seated on a stool, legs bent and feet flat, hands brought forward in a restrained gesture. The head, topped with a high conical crest, dominates a face with simplified features and wide-open eyes, giving the whole a hieratic presence. The body is treated with sobriety, the breasts modelled in solid volumes and the arms adorned with sculpted bracelets. The whole is characterized by a stable, frontal construction, typical of Senoufo statuary associated with the values of fertility and social continuity. Antique gray-brown patina, matte in places and darker in the hollows, revealing a surface worked by time. Condition : Good Height on base: 28 cm / 24 cm Width : 8 cm Weight : 500 grs
