Lot 263 - An exceptional small marble marquetry table stamped Alphonse Giroux, a Parisian painter, tablemaker and cabinetmaker whose activity flourished from the Consulate to the end of the Second Empire with the father and then the sons, whose speciality was the manufacture of very high quality small furniture for the bourgeoisie and the nobility. A marble marquetry top on a black background with a luminous décor of antique pottery, flowering vases and shells in shades of blue, orange and yellow reminiscent of gold, finished with a bronze frieze around the edge. A 19th century piece of very high quality with its marquetry work and finely chased gilded bronzes representing the faces of Satyrs in the four corners at the junction of the entablature and the legs, which are themselves finished with acanthus leaves. The front of the drawer is adorned in the centre with a Caryatid face, also in gilt bronze, and the lock is stamped "Alph. Giroux à Paris".
