Lot 369 -

Wall-mounted gilt bronze cartel with strikes known as Paris movement, late 19th century.

The striking Paris movement first appeared around 1750, and production stopped in 1939, on the eve of the Second World War, after which it did not restart. The calibre refers to the size of the plates and the arrangement of the gears within them. The platinums are the two brass plates between which the gears turn.
