Japanese ivory vase carved in low relief on an openwork wooden base. The sculpture depicts a group of musicians and entertainers and an audience of men, women and children in kimono. The scene is set in a park planted with Japanese cherry trees, the whole richly and finely carved, very realistic work typical of the Meiji period, circa 1900. The carved wooden base with openwork branches is supported by six scrolled feet.
